XNDT performed the Structural Steel Inspections and NDT Testing for this project, which initially aimed to renovate the former Cy Grant Gymnasium into classrooms, fitness facilities, a gym, student common areas, and an outdoor patio. The design honored the late North Georgia Technical College president’s vision—“Living and Learning in the Mountains”—blending history with an environment that fosters health, fitness, and education.
Built in 1947, the historic Cy Grant Gymnasium was a landmark on Georgia Highway 197 but had remained largely unused since the early 2000s due to its deteriorating interior. Structural assessments revealed significant deficiencies, leading to a revised plan that included the full demolition of the existing structure and the construction of a new, modern facility. The project incorporates sustainable design elements and will achieve Georgia Peach certification.
